WESTFIELD, NJ — A sweet addition to Westfield’s South Avenue is open for business.

The raw and vegan dessert café Viktoria Seiz held its opening Friday at which Mayor Shelley Brindle, members of the Greater Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce, representatives from the Downtown Westfield Corporation, family and friends sampled the treats on offer.

Viktoria and Dennis Seiz started the business in Brooklyn, New York, in 2018 with deliveries to restaurants in Midtown Manhattan through a friend and business partner, he said.

“The product was flying of the shelves and then COVID hit, and he had to close 17 restaurants,” Dennis Seiz said. “We had a concept. We were still selling for catering and private orders, but it was not enough.”

The couple moved to Westfield’s Summit Avenue with their 11-year-old son, Matthew, for the schools and have been working for about two years to open the shop, he said.

Friday is Viktoria Seiz’s first day open for retail business in Westfield.

While the family has since moved their home to Mountainside, Dennis Seiz said he was walking around his neighborhood in Westfield when he discovered their new business space on South Avenue, spotting a window sign advertising the open storefront.

Viktoria Seiz, who has previous experience in traditional baking, prepares the desserts, which are organic and raw. She moved to preparing the non-baked healthy sweets because of her father’s diabetes, Dennis Seiz said.

“You can eat this and not worry about spikes of insulin,” Dennis Seiz said. “It’s all natural. It’s organic.”

The shop received a warm welcome from the mayor.

“Your timing is perfect,” Brindle told the couple. “The community is going to welcome you with open arms, and we are at your service.”
